Welcome to the first newsletter for Reformed Evangel Fellowship, an upcoming local church plant in Vancouver (Washington, not Canada).
This post officially kicks off our weekly church newsletter. We promise to keep it mostly short.
🤨What to Expect
Since this is the first newsletter, it might be helpful to give you a basic rundown of how this will go.
We’ll post Fridays to give you REF updates in four categories: Last Week’s Message, What Can I Pray For?, Upcoming Events, and FAQ.
From time to time, we’ll include a fifth Life of the Church category—church family updates/interviews, polls, art/music, book reviews from elders (or members), and perhaps something to make you chuckle.
When we type “we” or “our,” it’s an editorial we—meaning that this is a group effort. Expect multiple authors and varying writing styles (this time, it’s me, Ed).
My wife read through a draft of this week’s post and told me I should make it more fun. Ouch. But she’s right—expect us to make it fruitful and enjoyable.
🎙️Last Week’s Message
Last week we had a Christmas Worship night. Yes, six days after Christmas, but so what? It’s the most wonderful time of the year.
In between all the worship, we heard a 15-minute sermonette. It was the story of Zechariah’s unbelief about the message he received from the angel Gabriel. Recall John Piper’s quote about the nature of faith:
Sin is not primarily what hurts man, but what belittles God by expressing unbelief or indifference to His superior worth.
🙏What can I Pray for?
Well, since you asked—pray for this newsletter to:
Be helpful in the life of our new church plant,
Update those supporting us in prayer, and
Spark the curiosity of our local community, and show them Who we’re all about.
